Iran ready to boost ties with Europe based on mutual interests, respect: Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran is ready to expand relations with European countries, particularly Italy, based on mutual respect and common interests.

Araghchi made the remarks in a Sunday meeting with the Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Riccardo Guariglia, who is in Tehran to participate in the 5th round of Iran-Italy political consultations.

He said Iran and Italy enjoy deep and cordial relations in different political, economic, and cultural fields.

The top Iranian diplomat added that regular and continuous political consultations between Tehran and Rome would play an “important and effective” role in fostering a better understanding of both sides’ positions and viewpoints.

This will help the two countries enhance mutual ties and promote stability and security at the regional and global levels, he emphasized.

The Italian diplomat, for his part, said he held positive talks with Iranian officials and expressed his country’s willingness to deepen ties with Iran based on common interests.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Guariglia co-chaired the fifth round of Iran-Italy political consultations in Tehran on Sunday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues, including political, economic, cultural, and consular relations as well as regional and international developments, including indirect talks between Iran and the United States.

Takht-Ravanchi and Guariglia agreed to pursue the topics and hold the next round of the consultations in Rome.
