Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad in 12-day war

Iran has executed a man convicted of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad spy agency and relaying intelligence about Iran’s high-security sites during the 12-day war of aggression imposed by the illegal entity against the Islamic Republic in June.

The Judiciary's Mizan news agency reported on Wednesday that the convict, identified as Babak Shahbazi, had been “executed by hanging” after due legal process and the confirmation of his death sentence by the country’s Supreme Court.

“Babak Shahbazi, a Mossad spy who had intelligence, espionage, and security cooperation with the Zionist regime and was exchanging information with individuals affiliated with this regime, was executed by hanging this morning after the completion of the legal process and his sentence being confirmed by the Supreme Court,” the online news website wrote.

Mizan said Shahbazi was sentenced to death for the capital offenses of "corruption on earth" and "waging war against God.”

The agency reported that Shahbazi was involved in the design and installation of industrial cooling systems for companies linked to the Iranian military, security and telecommunications organizations and facilities.

The convict’s access to such sites enabled him "to provide information to Mossad in exchange for money and residency in a foreign country," it added.

The news website said Shahbazi had also worked alongside Esmaeil Fekri, another convict executed in June for spying for Israel since early 2022.

The accused asked Esmaeil Fekri to visit Israeli social media pages and offered to sell information about high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic and their locations and movements "in exchange for security for himself and his family, permanent residency in the United States, and 120 million dollars in cash or cryptocurrency," Mizan said.

“Shahbazi, in his weekly communications with [Mossad] agency elements, sent the exact locations of projects, the type of project activities, the number of personnel active in each project, entry and exit points of each complex, the specifications of the head and key individuals, technical issues, and the strong and weak points of the projects to his relevant officers.”

Mizan said Shahbazi's lawyer had requested an appeal to the Supreme Court, which later upheld the death sentence and rejected the appeal.

In late July, Iran's intelligence forces said they had arrested "20 spies, Mossad operational and support agents, and elements connected to the (Israeli) regime's intelligence officers in Tehran" as well as several other provinces.

On June 13, the Israeli regime launched an unlawful act of aggression against Iran, leading to the assassination of many senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary citizens.

Iran retaliated in less than 24 hours with a barrage of missiles and drones, and followed it up with a series of retaliatory operations under True Promise III.

The US entered the war on behalf of Israel on June 22, when its bombers hit three Iranian nuclear sites in brazen violation of international law.

In response, Iran launched a missile strike on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military air base in West Asia, in an act of self-defense.

The embattled Israeli regime was forced to unilaterally accept a truce deal on June 24.
