Eslami: Russia committed to cooperating on building phases II, III of the Bushehr power plant

The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said that Russia is committed to cooperating on building phases two and three of the Bushehr power plant, and work is progressing quickly.

Nournews: Mohammad Eslami spoke about Russia’s cooperation with Iran to build units two and three of the Bushehr power plant after a government meeting.

He stated, “Recently, in a meeting with our president, Russia’s president said that his country is committed to this project, and it is a priority for us. We are taking it seriously, and this statement is correct.”

He continued, “Work on this is progressing at high speed.”

During a meeting with Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, Vladimir Putin said that relations between the two countries are growing and are friendly and constructive. He emphasized the need to strengthen relations through a memorandum of understanding.

Putin highlighted the importance of ensuring the upward trend in trade and economic relations, with a focus on active cooperation. The development of railway infrastructure in the North-South Corridor, the construction of phases two and three of the Bushehr power plant, and free trade between Iran and Eurasia are on the agenda.

Masoud Nasouri, the project manager for the construction of units 2 and 3 at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, also commented, saying that nearly 6 million cubic meters of excavation and soil preparation work have been completed. Around 47,000 piles have been driven for ground reinforcement, with phase 1 and phase 2 of the foundation work completed.

He added that all contracts related to the construction of the buildings have been signed, and the concrete work for the foundations has started. Around 4,000 people are currently working on these units, and two rounds of exams for hiring specialists for operation have already been held. Contracts with Iranian companies for domestically made materials have been signed, and equipment is being supplied to the site according to safety and nuclear requirements. These projects are advancing quickly, with phase two expected to be operational in five years, followed by phase three 18 months later.
