A Prize for Deception – When Paris Plays Politics in Iran’s Name

A festival that was once a symbol of creativity and freedom of expression has now turned into a tool for Paris’s divisive political agenda. France, through the Cannes platform, honors neither truth nor humanity; rather, it masks the crimes it has itself committed.

Nournews: The Cannes Film Festival continues while having not only lost its artistic independence but also turned into a political tribune for promoting specific agendas. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, by distorting realities and awarding a politically charged prize to an Iranian film, claims to support "freedom," even though his own government cannot tolerate freedom of thought within its own borders. This politicization of art is not a sign of solidarity with the people, but rather an attempt to obscure the true face of France.

France and Its Dark Record: From Colonialism to Genocide

The same France that now speaks of human rights is historically remembered by nations as a perpetrator of massacres, torture, and colonial oppression. From the brutal suppression of the Algerian people to discriminatory behavior against people of color on its own soil, Paris’s list of crimes has no end. The world has not forgotten how an intellectual like Roger Garaudy was imprisoned merely for questioning the official narrative of the Holocaust, and how freedom of speech in this country has fallen victim to its double standards.

Iran: A Victim of France’s Double Standards

The Iranian people have bitter memories of French hypocrisy—from arming Saddam Hussein with fighter jets and deadly missiles during the imposed war, to exporting contaminated blood and supporting sanctions that have targeted the health and livelihoods of Iranians. Now, with an intellectual façade, they claim to care for the Iranian people, while simultaneously having a long track record of supporting violence and unrest.

Cannes: The Missing Voice of the Greatest Tragedy of Our Time

Perhaps the most important question for a festival like Cannes is why there is no space for telling the story of the Gaza genocide. How can thousands of children fall victim to the Zionist regime’s aggression, yet their voices remain unheard in a cinema that claims to champion humanity? France, one of the suppliers of weapons used in these crimes, seeks to hide its role with false postures and present a distorted image of the world. But public awareness is growing; history will bear witness to who the real criminals were and who the true victims.
