In a phone conversation with Sheikh Tamim on Wednesday, Pezeshkian put a premium on strengthening political and diplomatic cooperation among Muslim countries.
“It is hoped that in the light of empathy and unity among Muslim countries, and by relying on political and wise solutions, we can exert the necessary pressure on the Zionist regime to stop the repeated crimes and injustice against the oppressed people of Gaza, and pave the way for the return of peace and stability to this region,” Pezeshkian said.
For his part, Sheikh Tamim called for unity among Muslim countries to stop the Zionist regime’s genocide against Gazans.
“The Muslim Ummah is in a difficult phase and sensitive situation."
"However, it’s hoped that under your wise management, reason, and continuous efforts, along with close cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran, the State of Qatar, and other Muslim countries, we can overcome this difficult period and prevent the continuation of the Zionist regime’s genocide against the defenseless people of Gaza,” he said.
Israel launched the campaign of genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023. It has killed at least 54,607 Palestinians there so far, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
Sheikh Tamim also expressed hope that continued direct communication between the two countries’ high-ranking officials will lead to deepening bilateral ties, achieving common goals and securing the interests of the nations of Iran and Qatar.
During the phone call, Pezeshkian and the Qatari emir also exchanged Eid al-Adha greetings.
