Iran’s Natanz Nuclear Site sustains superficial damage: Spokesman

The Israeli regime’s military attacks have caused only superficial damages to the Natanz nuclear facility in Iran’s central province of Isfahan, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said.

In comments at a televised interview on Friday, Behrouz Kamalvandi said the uranium enrichment facility at the Fordow site in the Qom province is safe and unharmed after the Israeli regime’s military strikes on Iran.

He noted that Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Eslami has visited the Natanz nuclear site in the central province of Isfahan, saying the facility has sustained superficial damages in the Israeli attack.

Incidents have occurred on the ground surface at Natanz site, the spokesman added, noting that the attack has not caused casualties at the subterranean site.

Kamalvandi said chemical and radiation pollution has been detected inside the Natanz site, but it has not spilled outside the facility. “We need to carry out decontamination inside the site,” he added.

The Israeli regime attacked a number of residential neighborhoods of Tehran and locations in other parts of Iran in the early hours of Friday.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami, Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Major General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, and at least six Iranian nuclear scientists have been martyred in the strikes.

Ayatollah Khamenei has warned the Zionist regime that it will receive a severe punishment for the strike, saying, “With this crime, the Zionist regime has prepared for itself a bitter, painful fate, which it will definitely see.”
