Iran willing to accept nuclear limits if sanctions lifted: Deputy foreign minister

Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi says Iran is open to negotiating a win-win deal in which it accepts certain limited restrictions on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions.

Takht-e-Ravanchi told Japan’s Kyodo News that Iran seeks an outcome satisfying all parties, including the United States.

He stressed, however, that uranium enrichment remains a non-negotiable necessity for Iran’s nuclear program, calling it a fundamental element that cannot be waived under any circumstances.

“Iran can be flexible on the capacities and limits of enrichment, but cannot agree to stop enrichment under any circumstance because it is essential, and we need to rely on ourselves, not on empty promises,” Takht-e-Ravanchi said.

“It is simple and clear: if the US insists on zero enrichment, then we have no deal,” he added.

On the issue of compensation, Takht-e-Ravanchi noted that Iran’s right to seek reparations is valid but said the topic was not a precondition for talks and would be addressed during negotiations.

He also made clear that for talks to continue, “Washington must guarantee that it will not attack Iran again if negotiations resume.”

Tehran and Washington were involved in indirect nuclear negotiations mediated by Oman when Israel launched large-scale aggression against Iran on June 13. Washington also joined the Israeli war of aggression and bombed three of Iran’s main nuclear facilities on the pretext of preventing Iran from what it claimed to be developing nuclear weapons.
