Iran approves comprehensive national plan to combat dust storms

Iran has approved a comprehensive national plan to combat dust storms, a pressing environmental challenge for the country.

Finalized after months of cooperation among 15 government agencies, the 150-page plan serves as a national reference document and aligns with Iran’s Seventh Development Plan, institutionalizing integrated governance at national and provincial levels.

Behzad Rayegani, head of the secretariat for national dust policy and coordination, highlighted the extensive involvement of experts, including over 170 hours of technical work.

The plan encompasses 10 overarching strategies and numerous specific actions.

A localized adaptation and mitigation plan for the Serajeh region in Qom Province, central Iran, was also approved to strengthen local resilience.

This comprehensive approach signifies Iran’s commitment to sustainable environmental governance and addressing climate-related challenges.
