The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Israel announced on Wednesday that Israel’s position in American public opinion has fallen to its lowest level.
Citing the institute, Al Jazeera reported that traditional support for Israel among Democrats has disappeared, while backing among Republicans is also waning.
The report added that Israel is now dependent on a capricious U.S. president and an unstable Republican Party, and that the trajectory of American public opinion regarding Israel poses a serious threat to Israel’s security.
The security institute further stressed that the war must end and that the situation in Gaza should be improved according to a strategy that ensures the stability of Israel’s relations with the United States.
Since the start of the Gaza war and Israel’s wide-scale attacks that severely affected the lives of civilians in the enclave, public opinion in the Western world has shifted regarding Israel, Palestine, and even Hamas.
Protests against the continuation of the Gaza war, with calls that Israel is committing genocide, have led to significant changes in polling compared to the past. This shift has been particularly evident in the United States, a country that considers Israel its main ally in the Middle East and provides it with extensive financial and military assistance each year.
Surveys of American public opinion show that citizens’ views on the Israel-Palestine issue are increasingly at odds with those of U.S. politicians.
