Widespread coverage of General Bagheri's trip in the Russian media

The visit of Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to Moscow and the purpose of his meetings and talks with the Russian side were reflected in the Russian media, and the reports noted that Tehran and Moscow will talk and consult.

NOURNEWS - The Moscow-based Kommersant newspaper reported on Monday in a report titled "Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces in Moscow discusses arms purchases and Afghanistan" quoted by IRNA as saying: "Both sides, including the situation in Afghanistan and arms sales.

The Russian media wrote: The Iranian general is expected to discuss with Russian officials issues related to the development of cooperation, defense cooperation and military relations between Iran and Russia, as well as issues related to the fight against terrorism and regional issues and international developments.

"According to the Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, the situation in Afghanistan will be one of the topics discussed in the talks of this trip,"Kommersant Media added. The two sides will also discuss arms sales following the end of the UN Security Council arms embargo, which expired after October 2020.

General Bagheri meets with Shoygu and Grasimov:

The second channel of the Russian state television also said in today's news and news sections of yesterday evening: General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, has come to Moscow for an official visit. In the Russian capital, he will meet with Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Grasimov.

Referring to General Bagheri's remarks upon his arrival in Moscow at the Vnokova International Airport, the Russian media added: "During Bagheri's visit to Russia, the issue of arms sales and the situation in Afghanistan will be examined."

Prior to that, Bagheri paid a four-day visit to Pakistan and met with a number of Pakistani politicians and military officials. One of the results of this visit was the holding of a joint Iranian-Pakistani naval exercise.

Shoygu and the Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces in Moscow are negotiating the signing of an arms purchase agreement:

RIA Novosti news agency reported on Monday that Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, arrived in Moscow on Sunday and is scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoygu to discuss the latest situation in Afghanistan and the purchase of Russian weapons after the UN embargo.

 The report, which was accompanied by a video of General Bagheri's arrival at Moscow's Vnukovo airport and his official welcoming ceremony with the participation of the Russian Army's ceremonial unit, said: "The Iranian and Russian armed forces are cooperating in many areas."

The Russian media added: "Iran-Russia cooperation has developed in recent years and the main purpose of the Iranian delegation's visit to Moscow, in addition to the issues of bilateral cooperation, is detailed consultations on Afghanistan."

According to RIA Novosti, General Bagheri noted that the recent events in Afghanistan and its impact on neighboring countries and countries in the region are being studied.

The Iranian delegation is negotiating the purchase of weapons:

The Tass news agency wrote in a report on General Bagheri's visit to Moscow: "An Iranian delegation intends to negotiate with the Russian side on the purchase of weapons from Russia."

The media noted that the situation in Afghanistan would be one of the topics discussed in the talks between the Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and Russian officials.

The Tass news agency noted the end of the arms embargo imposed on Iran by the UN Security Council.
